For the historical of Thread, I think this film does not has it because this film is produce by mixture of dramatically and documentary which fiction story of nuclear War that effect to the Sheffield in Northern of United Kingdom. For the political side, this film represents a social insecurity in UK society .As you can see in the film that although UK was bombed but government cannot do anything for helped people. For example, government was not prepare food, drink, public shelter for people when it was bombed. People need to survive by themselves in the city. For the Social side, people in society does not t trust in each other as you can see in a scene that a police man want a homeless people live with an old man.The old man conducts that he don’t want these people to live with him and drive out all of them at last(see from 08.30-09.10). People always are in panic and scare for everything not only for people but also the environmental.
In my opinion, in political side, before the country was attacked by bomb, people were protest the government to against the nuclear attack and want a campaign for nuclear disarmament. People don’t want to figure in this War but they was ignored. Moreover, the country has limitation in budget for assist the population which means that after Sheffield was attacked by bomb, the government cannot support food or money to everybody. As in the movie it has a group of security authority which set up for subtend this problem but they cannot do anything for people. This situation indicates that government cannot hold the country and solve a social-economic problem.
ReplyDeleteIt seems interesting and realistic on many issues (UV problem for exemple).
ReplyDeletein the other hand, i do agree with Mohoender. first, he mention that "Concerning harvest the lack of chemicals seems to be rated first and it would be a problem. In fact, we already put so much into the ground than that might not be a problem at all. From what, the Amish in US are gettting the best crop output while they are not using any chemicals. Insects and drought could well be a problem, however. Finding seeds might be another problem. Secondly, They depict a society with no rules and where no one has taken over. It found that highly unbelievable especially as they compare the figures to that of the Middle Ages. They forgot, that most European societies had been built around bandits who had settled down and carved their own petty kingdoms. Most often, being part of the nobility means that one of your ancester was some kind of bandits who made his fortune using ways similar to that of the modern mafias. In that matter, the ideas of T2K more realistic. One more thing, the world (humanity) already survived to the level of casualties that would bring a nuclear war and It would not be surprised if it was to survive again. The Great Plague (1347-1350) had killed to a similar level and that combined with severe hunger and global freezing. we would face new problems but what occur at that time is interesting to imagine what could happen after a nuclear conflict."
in conclude, i think some part of the movie is overwhelmingly pessimistic.

"As the cold war ended, nuclear fiction again mutated"
ReplyDeletethere is very interesting article,Who’s afraid of the big, bad nuke? by BY ADAM HIGGITT ON NOVEMBER 15, 2009, mention about cold war, anti-nuclear accident, no-nuke and also mention about Threads movie.
"With increased tension went heightened anxiety. The BBC’s 1984 production Threads still stands as 110 of the bleakest minutes ever broadcast on British television. Centering on the lives of one Sheffield family ripped apart by full-scale nuclear war, it depicts some family members dying without dignity or hope in their pathetic shelters, while others members simply vanish from the screen without account. Threads takes the viewer to a full 15 years after the holocaust, at which point humanity has sunk to medieval levels of welfare and cohesion, scarcely able to communicate with one another."

According to what Gandh in the previous comment i do agree with him in some parts but somehow it is not all correct since in my opinion about the nuclear disarmament. Although according to the film, people protest about the nuclear possession by government but somehow, in the practically government cannot do that since how can they be sure that if they follow what people need by reducing the amount of nuclear the other states would do so. The risk is too high for the government.
ReplyDeleteWell, I want to add more about social side which i already presented in the class.
ReplyDeleteBefore the bomb incedenthappen , the Government established the group of Emergency authority in order to verify about bomb, radiation ,warning and support people during the bomb time. However this Government idea didn't turn out in the good shape because the emergency authority base also was attacked by bomb. Therefore this situation forced govenrment to issue the law that allow soldiers to shoot citizen whenever they feel that they have to do it even when they saw citizens were trying to steal food.
